Who is Wakin Chau?

Emil Chau Wakin has been in the music business
in Asia for twenty years.
In that time, he’s made nearly forty albums in three
different languages—Mandarin Chinese, English, and his native Cantonese—all of
which he speaks fluently. As an amazing singer and songwriter, he’s had
countless hit singles and albums throughout his impressive career.
Wakin is as well-known for his sunny
personality and contagious laughter as he is for his crystal-clear, smooth
flowing vocals. His charismatic live performances continually attract mega
huge audiences everywhere he goes. His enormous popularity throughout Asia
has kept him comfortably in superstar status for much of the last two decades.
Though Wakin has no recognized or official fan clubs per se, he has very large,
very loyal fan bases in Taiwan,
mainland
China, Hong Kong,
Japan,
Singapore and
Malaysia.
Wakin owns his own production company in
Taipei, Taiwan called Stars Ferry, which handles everything related to his
career--including the recording of his albums and the running of his official
website, wakin.com. He owns his own
restaurant chain in Taipei called Wakin’s Kitchen, specializing in fabulous Cantonese cuisine.
In addition to owning his own successful business, Wakin also endorses other
companies, like Malaysian-based Ogawa,
maker of fine health and wellness products, and
Judger, a premier apparel retailer in
China.
He can frequently be found on Asian TV and in
films, both in cameos and in starring roles. A very close friend of Jackie Chan,
he has appeared in four of Jackie’s films, namely Rumble in the Bronx,
Mr. Nice Guy,
Supercop II, and Gorgeous.
Though born and raised in Hong Kong, Wakin
lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan, where he’s been since his college days. It
was in those days at the University of Taiwan while studying mathematics that
Wakin met his American-born wife, Constance Woods. They were married in 1986, before
Wakin’s music career launched him into stardom. They have two children—Andrew
and Anya. It is well known that Wakin’s family is the highest priority and
greatest joy in his life.
Currently, Wakin’s career is
going full speed ahead. Though most of his concert dates remain in Asia, he
does make it across the Pacific to North America. In February of 2006, he
performed in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada,
and as recently as November, 2007, he gave a series of stunning performances in
Los Angeles, San Francisco,
and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
What’s in store for the
future? One thing is crystal
clear--Wakin is not slowing
down. His international appeal is unmistakable, and his fans are confident
that the best years are yet to come.
