Wakin 20

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

What He Wore

I was very pleased this time that my pictures came out pretty good.  Our seats were close enough to the stage for my camera to pick up Wakin's expressions and stage costumes with at least some clarity and detail!

Wakin had three main costumes this time.  First, he appeared in an elegant white suit that looked really awesome.

From white, he changed into a dark pink shirt and black slacks.  This ensemble was also very nice looking, and sparkled in the stage lights.

His final change was probably my favorite--a red shirt with painted jeans.  It was a very cool look on Wakin, and I think red is one of his best colors.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Wakin's reception in Niagara Falls was very warm!  Clearly the crowd loved him. (Like...of course, right?  Who doesn't....) I think he received three different bouquets of flowers, and so much lucky New Year's money it was impossible to count!  Initially, Wakin responded to the first bright red envelope with a chuckle and a humorous tribute in song.  After that, it just kept coming and coming, until by the end of the concert, one amplifier was completely covered with red envelopes, and one fan even handed him a bill with no envelope at all!

The fans were so excited!  There was a seemingly endless line of people coming to the stage from all areas of the floor seats to give Wakin the red envelopes of lucky New Year's money, to shake his hand and to take pictures standing next to him while he sang.  It was obvious that everyone in the audience was having a great time and very glad to see and hear him sing.  I think Wakin was completely overwhelmed!

What He Said

As usual, Wakin would pause during the show periodically to talk to the audience.  Unfortunately I missed most of what he said this time, since I didn't have a translator for this show like I did in San Francisco.  But he made the audience laugh and clap a lot, so whatever he said must have been funny!  (I know I know...one of these days I really must learn some Chinese...)

He did actually talk a little bit in English this time too!  Early in the show, Wakin addressed the crowd in English and said, "I know we have some native fans here--Canadians and Americans--who don't understand what is going on.  And I really want to take care of you..." and that's when he started to sing "Yesterday".  That was a really cool moment for me, because I love the Beatles, I love that song, and Wakin's version was very beautiful.  It was very nice of him to think of us non-Chinese speakers!

Simply Breathtaking

The momentum was high, the crowd was into it, the feeling was good from the moment Wakin hit the stage until the moment he said goodbye.  Not even technical problems in the venue (which led to a brief interruption early in the show) could dampen his performance, or the spirits of the crowd.

Wakin poured his heart and soul into every note, all night long.  He gave an incredible, stellar performance.  It was a breathtaking show.  Wow...that's all I can say.  And wow doesn't begin to describe how fantastic this show was.   Even the ushers as we were walking out of the concert hall were commenting on Wakin's amazing performance, what a great show it was and on the talent of his band.  He just blew everybody completely away!

It was really hard to leave the next day--I wanted so much to stay for the second show.  But I'm just so glad I got the opportunity to get to hear him sing again this time.  Thank you Wakin, for coming back to North America!  We're so happy you came--please come back again soon!
